How I Work With Clients

The clients I work best with aren’t worried about markets. They’re busy, financially successful, and quietly aware that the complexity of their financial lives has started to outpace the attention they’re able to give it. They want someone who has already thought about the things they haven’t had time to.

Most are high-income professionals dealing with equity compensation, concentrated stock, and growing taxable assets. The financial decisions they face often interact with each other in ways that aren’t obvious at first. The right answers almost always depend on each other.

I keep my client list intentionally small. It allows me to stay ahead of what’s coming for each client rather than simply reacting to what has already happened. The goal is for clients to feel like someone is actually watching the whole picture, so they don’t have to.

Eagle Grove is fee-only and independent. No product sales, no commissions, no incentives that pull in a different direction from yours.

I live in Westfield, New Jersey with my wife Sarah and our two sons, Hudson and Miles. Anyone with a family knows that the real financial questions aren’t about returns — they’re about making sure the life you’re building is actually funded.

Background & Credentials

PRESIDENT
Eric L Gabor, CFP®, EA

I started my career at Goldman Sachs Ayco advising senior executives on equity compensation, tax planning, and benefits. The work was technically demanding and the clients had real complexity. The best outcomes happened when investment decisions and tax decisions were made together, not handed off between departments.

That observation shaped everything after it.

I went on to Convergent Wealth Advisors, working more directly with clients across all areas of their financial lives, and earned the CFP® designation through NYU’s financial planning program. Before founding Eagle Grove in 2016, I was a senior advisor at AJ Wealth, helping build the firm’s investment philosophy and client experience from the ground up.

I founded Eagle Grove because I wanted to build the practice the right way from scratch, not inherit someone else’s model. Fee-only, independent, and genuinely accountable to clients rather than to a firm’s revenue model.

I hold two credentials that most advisors have separately, if at all: the CFP® designation for comprehensive financial planning, and the Enrolled Agent credential, which is the IRS’s highest designation for tax professionals. In practice, that means tax planning and investment strategy happen in the same room, with the same person, at the same time. For clients with real tax complexity, that integration matters.

I earned my undergraduate degree in finance from Penn State.

Story

My Professional Story

I graduated from Penn State with a finance degree during the worst economic landscape since the Great Depression (what a time to look for a job!).  However, that did not stop me from pursuing a career path where I could use my analytical and interpersonal skills to help others achieve their goals.  My persistence paid off as I landed my first gig as an analyst at Goldman Sachs’ Ayco Company, a firm specializing in financial planning for Fortune 500 executives.  This role opened my eyes to what financial planning was and how a well thought out plan can leave a lasting impact in clients’ lives.

My next stop was at Convergent Wealth Advisors where I helped manage all aspects of the client relationships.  During my time there, I enrolled in NYU’s financial planning program to pursue the CFP® designation.  The seven-course program provided me with in-depth knowledge of financial planning, insurance planning and risk management, investment planning, income tax planning, retirement planning, and estate planning.

My most recent role was as a senior advisor at AJ Wealth.  I joined AJ Wealth during the company’s early stages and was actively involved in crafting the firm’s investment philosophy, employee training, compliance, and marketing efforts.  During spring 2013, I sat and passed the CFP® examination.

In 2016, I was awarded the Enrolled Agent certification by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).  An Enrolled Agent is a tax professional who has earned the privilege of representing taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service by passing a three-part comprehensive IRS test covering individual and business tax return policies. Enrolled Agent status is the highest credential the IRS awards.

All of this experience, along with my desire to serve my peer group, has culminated in the launch of Eagle Grove.  I created an independent firm from scratch in order to reduce as many conflicts of interest as possible so I can align myself with you and together we will work on achieving your life’s dreams.
